bibby wheelwright blacksmith etc

mollie cross

master brummie
Hi all , looking for any info on a wheelwright and blacksmith business , it was owned by W, Bibby&Son in Cromwell street Nechells. I have an old letterhead ,the date on it was in the twenties. Hope someone can help .

Mollie.:)

It was between nos 155 and 161 on the northwest side of the street, about halfway between the school (125?)and oliver st. It was not listed in the 1921 or 1937 kellys, but was in Kellys from 1932-36. i could make a guess as to exactly where it was but would be very unsure as there are more numbers in the road than buildings and few easily distinguishable.

Cheers MikeJee, How do I access the kellys' directory , are thy on line at all ? I don't get out much these days.

Regards ,Mollie.

There aren't any online for the area for the period you want, but if you go to the following links :
https://i431.photobucket.com/albums/qq38/jeemikejee/KellysCromwellst1932.jpg
https://i431.photobucket.com/albums/qq38/jeemikejee/cromwellstc1913.jpg
these show the entry for cromwell st for 1932, and a map (1913) of cromwell st (minus a tiny bit at the top which isn't involved). As you can see the school caretaker is 127, (the school probably 125-6 but number not given) and it can be shown from other kellys that the last house before oliver st (which curiously reads Liver st on the map) is one of 196.197,198.
hope that's useful
