Peter Bayliss born 1819 Birmingham was my husbands 3 x great grandfather, Peters father was Thomas Bayliss born abt 1779, this date was taken from the 1841 census.

The occupations fore Peter vary on each census return from 1841 to 1881 he was either a gun polisher, sword polisher and also a jeweller. On the marriage certificate of his son Albert Bayliss to Lottie James in 1884, his occupation was listed as small arms dealer. Albert Bayliss born 1861 Birmingham, was a butcher.

I have found various old posts on the net this evening, which mention a Bayliss family who could be related to my husbands family, they were in the same trade as Peter. The head of the family was John Bayliss born 1815 Birmingham occupation gun maker, who in 1851 was living with his family at 24 Whittall Street, Birmingham. I don't believe that John Bayliss was a brother of Peters but I could be wrong.

Please get in touch if you recognise any of the above.

Thanks

Lynne

Lynne it appears to be a very popular surname in the gun trade but not many seem to be related.
There is no John Bayliss, born around the time on LDS with father Thomas
To complicate matters there were a few baptisms around ther time Peter was baptised which was 5 years after he was born with a father Thomas but none with mother Jane as in the case of Peter.
