A little advance information, a service to rededicate the Basra Memorial Wall will take place on March 11th
at the National Memorial Arboreum at Alrewas. The original wall was built in 2006 and carries the names of
the 178 UK personnel and one MOD civilian killed in Iraq.In April 2009 the wall was dismantled and returned
to Britain and is currently being re erected close to the Armed Forces Memorial
The Armed Forces Minister said "The Basra Wall is hugely significant for the familiesof those who fell during
the conflict, and also those who served alongside them. With the calibre of politicians we get nowadays its
a good job there is plenty of room at Alrewas for further memorials Bernard
 
Hi Dave,nice to talk again, have been in our new hospital for two days with a heart valve problem, as you say they have quite a way to go yet, think of that old
saying "Many hands make light work" (except when fuse is blown!) Take care now Bernard

Further work is underway, spoke to Graham at the Memorial, asked me not to show any pics of the build at this stage, outside ok, few from today, the red bricks are original the rest of them in the baskets.
 
Called into the Arboretum today, building work is progressing well, sorry no pics as requested by Graham
 
Visited today, One week to the Re-dedication

Memorial looking good, Red Granite,

ground work going well, ground drying out,

after weeks of poor weather.
 
The Basra Memorial Wall Rededication tomorrow 1200 at the NMA, ticket only,

the Armed Forces Memorial closed until 1300, will be there at a distance,

pictures afterwards, The Rededication should be covered on the news channels.
 
I will be thinking of them all today. Look out if you live near there is going to be a fly past. Dave thanks for the photo's.

Great photo's as always Dave. I did look out for the flypast but they must have gone in the other direction. The wall looks amazing like a giant mirror with all those brass plaques. It is so sad we have to have a memorial to War in this day and age but I am glad that families and ordinary folk have somewhere to go to remember those who gave their lives for our country. I have been a couple of times it is truly wonderful and tranquil place. Congratulations to all concerned for all the hard work!
 
What was extra for me today, was a large candle in a glass case on the ground in the centre of the Memorial, Tracey Hazel lit it for the first time.
 
Today early, before the Candle had been replaced in position, and later with candle in place
 
Thanks for posting the photos Dave. I love all the reflections in the brass plaques- a very special memorial for very special people.

Dave thanks for posting the photos, we will go and visit when the weather is warmer, the last time we went it was so cold and windy I felt my blood had turned to ice. The whole site is a wonderful tribute to all those who have given their lives over the years, and so sad that so many fine young people are still being added to such a long list.
 
Thanks Dave for posting the Basra Pictures, we saw it National T/v news.

They interviewed a soldier badly injured in this horrible war from Barnstaple on our local South West News.

After many months of dreadful pain he has taken a very brave step to allow him to get on with his life and have his leg removed he's a real hero.

He go's in for the operation this week he said he will return to his regiment after at Chivenor just across the Taw from were we live.

That's a real Hero not these over paid sports people.

I wish the lad all the best.

Thanks, this one today, the candle in it`s place, they move the candle into the Chaple overnight (security), and in time might leave the candle in the Chaple all the time.
