I have some confirmed information & some speculations on the above names.
The confirmed information is:
Sarah Banning, daughter of Priscilla Barton & George Banning born Abt 1864.
Priscilla was born abt 1845 to John & Sarah Barton.
I can't find a marriage for Priscilla or George and suspect that they did not marry as Priscilla was under 21 & too young to marry without parental consent.
Priscilla died in 1865 in the same quarter that her 2nd daughter was born.
In the 1881 Census Sarah Banning was living with her grandmother Sarah Barton, she was a pen raiser & was 17 years old.
Sarah Banning went on to marry Thomas Ward, whose daughter, Doris is my grandmother.
There is a family story that Sarah Banning was done out of her inheritance by her brothers. Sarah was illiterate and her brothers told her to sign a document, which she later found out was her signing away her inheritance.
After searching, I can find no brothers for Sarah, there was a half brother but he died very young.
Sarah did have uncles who were not much younger than herself and I am now wondering if the story of her brothers is actually about her uncles. If so this would also tie into the story that the family around that time was linked to The Bartons Arms in Aston.
I cannot find any information about The Bartons Arms prior to it's rebuild in the early 1900's.
I no longer live in Birmingham & getting to central library is gonna mean a 200 odd mile drive!
If anyone can help on this it would be appreicated.
Thanks
