barrel shaker

modgee

knowlegable brummie
My g/grandfather worked as a barrel shaker in a rivet factory. Can anyone tell me more about this job please?

i once worked in a nut and bolt mnfctrs ,my job was to fill up these barrel shaped (like a tombola box,the one at ward end is still in the club) boxes that rotated and vibrated to clean and remove burrs, smelly and noisey,i lasted till dinner time then i went into my local THE GEACH in geach st,where i decided along with about 4 pints of mild that i wasnt cut out to be a shaker of any sort,CHEERS.(NEVER DID GET OWT FOR LONG SERVICE.

Thanks dollyferret - that does give me some kind of idea of what the job was! Sounds very boring though. Don't know how my g/grandfather stuck it for over 50 years....
