I'm Lokking for any Details of a Leslie Baker (He was Male not female) I found out today that he was buried at Yardley Cem with a May Baker and also Frederick baker who I think were his Granparents but not sure. He was buried May 1963 Aged 17 yrs old is there anyway that there may be an obituary or an article about his death as to die at a young is so sad. I haven't got any other info, so any info would be really good. Thanks :)

Two choices here. A Leslie Baker, death registered 1st quarter 1963 Birmingham vol 9c page 86, but he was 49 years of age.
A 17 year old, Leslie F Baker, death registered 2nd quarter 1963, but in Neath, Glamorgan vol 8b page 640.
The certificate(s) will give cause of death.

Thanks Lloyd I know that he is buried in yardley cem and was 17 yrs old and was May 1963 as spoke to the lady at the cem. so do you think that they would know the area of death, if it was Glamorgan then he would have to have gone across boarders . Would they not have this info on the register at the cem if death in another area?

I have sent for the birth cert from Glamorgan so hopefully will get cause of death.

Leslie F Baker birth registered Birmingham 1945 3rd quarter so would not have been 18 until 3rd qtr 1963.Mothers maiden name Francis.
Have found 2 marriages in the area in the 1939 and 1943
Arthur H Baker to Kathleen Francis
George E Baker to Doris Francis.

The cemetery/crematorium does not require information about where people died.
My Dad died in Lanzarote but Sutton Crematorium does not have this information.

Alberta thanks, will look into the marriages to see if any are the parents. I wasn't sure about the detail of the death so thanks for letting me know that those details aren't kept by the cem. I have sent for the death cert. Thank you again

The death certificate will give cause of death, and (I think) location.
Aged 17, away from home - I'd guess died while on holiday, or camping trip perhaps? When you know more details, local newspapers for the days after should give details of what happened, almost certainly there would have been an inquest, again details from local reference authorities (Libraries etc).
Please let us know what you find out from the certificate - this is intriguing now!
Perhaps there was something in Birmingham papers too - Birmingham central library has most on microfilm, wouldn't take long to check a couple of weeks, dates between the death & burial perhaps?

Lloyd you have helpedalot thank you as I'm not that experienced in all this yet so having people that know more is a great help I'll go into the libary to see if there is any mention in the papers and ( where would I go to see if there was an inquest?) I'll look into seeing if there was an inquest if someone would point me into the right direction thanks for all the help. People on the site have been so lovely and so patient

When you get the certificate, it should give place of death. Then try local (to there) places, library (which might also have period newspapers on file), local council, police station etc. Give us details when you get the cert.

I phoned today Yardley Cem after the easter Holiday the young lady was so nice. She went and looked again to see if there were any other details about Leslie F Baker and she came up with, Leslie died 27 april 1963 he died at Neath General Hospital Glamorgan. So you all were right he died in Neath Glamorgan. We went to look at the cem to see if there was a head stone really disappionted as trying to work out if Leslie was buried with his parents Frederick Baker & May Baker (Nee: Francis)and he was a late baby or if they were may be G.parents so need to look into that. When Death Cert comes in will let you know what happened.

I got in touch with the neath glamorgan coroner today they were so helpful they are going to look to see if the was an inquest. I will let you know in the next couple of days what they say thank you all for your help. lets keep fingers crossed to finding out what happened.

Hi Just got death cert for Leslie F Baker aged 17
He died 27 april 1963 at neath hospital
He sustained a fractured skull when the tractor he was driving overturned .accident
an inquest was held 6 june 1963
So can anyone tell me what information would the coroner have at the inquest(would he have the address where he worked eg the farm the name of next of kin ect) the address on the death cert was my G granparents in birmingham. So looked like went to Wales to work.
That's so sad. so I think i'm off to birmingham libary and also ask the neath archives to see if any reports in the paper.
