Aston cross,aston,

Astonian

gone but not forgotten
HI GUYS
This is so namedbecause it is the cross - roads of park lane ,park road,the Aston roadnorth,the lichfield road and rocky lane, and because it was dominated
From 1853 by a clock tower and its research has revealed that this spot was known as Catcham ,s End, and that Aston cross did not come into general
Use until the gates to Aston park- then in variuos stage of development - were removed in 1862
The first clock was put up by a builder called Hearitage whom bought many of the plots of land around Aston cross and whom wanted to draw attention
To his developments through an eye catching focal point,
Later given to the Aston board of health ,
The clock became unsafe and was demolished in 1891 to be replaced by the present clock
It is probaly that That Tower road was named after original and large clock which looked like a tower
In my life span of growing up along side that original clock and passing of time from birth that clock had been changed twice
it was changed when i was living along the lichfield rd about four hundred yards from it and also as been moved since i left the area of Aston
And been removed and repostioned and moved further back which is now lined up probaly the original postion of park lane
and its features of a tower which you can see today if travellimng throgh Aston cross toward the city centre and going through what was called
gosta green green and through the under pas of our city and passing our old hearitage central fire station ;
Best wishes Astonian; Astonian;;
