Ashford Joseph 1845 - help please

negritaspider

Hi all,

I have a Joseph Ashford, born 1845 showing on all census from 1851 to 1891 as born in 1845 - parents Joseph and Elizabeth (Eliza), occupation Glass blower.
When I tried to get his birth date from IGI, Joseph born 1845 comes up as parents Frederick and Caroline, and Joseph with parents Joseph and Elizabeth comes up as christened in 1843.....

I have a death of Joseph on FreeBMD in 1894 aged 49, which ties in with the Census Joseph.

Can anyone find if there is ANOTHER joseph born in 1845 - with parents Elizabeth and Joseph?
Or find a reason for this discrepancy in dates???

Re: Joseph Ashford 1845 - help please

hello negrita

there are the two births on the bmd register. one for 1843 warks and one for 1845 warks.

as joseph and elizabeth/eliza are such common names it may be that the 1843 christening was another family.

the 1845 birth is 1845 apr-jun bham 16 235

you could ask for the cert if parents are joseph and eliz.

as there is only two years between them it really could be either one i suppose

Hi Shera
Yes, I found both those births also....
I went back to the 1851 census' and have now found 2 Josephs with parent Joseph and Elizabeth.
One noted born c1844 - this one matches to the IGI christening 13 Aug 1843 at St Mary's, Handsworth.
The birth in 1845 I can't find anything on IGI with parents Joseph and Eliza - any chance you could search in your church disc to see if you could find him, to reconfirm the BMD record? As I said, I can't get certs from where I am!
