Around 1959/60 I attended a weightlifting club with this name or something similar. Does anyone remember it?
If you dropped down from The Green at Kings Norton onto the Pershore Road, as if going left to Cotteridge, the club house was some kind of rectangular, lightly fabricated hut about a 100 yards along the Pershore Road, just off the road and behind the road frontage buildings, down a little pathway on the right.
The club was owned by a tallish, handsome guy whose claim to fame, I seem to remember, was that he had come 3rd in some national or international weightlifting championships in some set lift or other at his weight. Was his name something like Harry Thomas? He had a trainer guy who ran the club as a sort of deputy with him. His name may have been Jeff. He was shorter and had more of a bull dog look and physique. Jeff's 15 year old son trained there too, and was similarly built.
