Liz Baker

Could I ask for a really big favour. I wondered if anyone is going to Yardley cem. I have found that George Richard Francis was buried in 1926 aged 64 the grave no is 28219 section common E. Not sure if there will be a headstone or not. :) If anyone could help I would be so grateful :)
Thanks Liz

Hi Liz

There is a strong possibility that i will be going to the cemetery to-morrow (Friday) to find a grave relevant to my family history. I see that you have a reference to the grave that you are seeking. I persume that you got this from the Birmingham Reference library. Having looked up many grave references myself, i know that i will need to visit the cemetery office to obtain the section number to find the grave location, which is not a problem. However because you mention "common" in the grave reference, this strongly suggests that there will not be a headstone and that maybe George was buried in a public grave along with other people! I will ask and i will visit the grave site but be prepared that there well may not be anything to see/report.
I'll let you know my findings.

Regards

Steve

Here's a map of Yardley Cemetery which may save time if you can pinpoint the graves before your visit. It seems strange that the sections are just numbered when they are usually sectioned by letters,ch is the reference Liz has. :)

Hi Liz.

I have been to Yardley cemetery to-day. I went to the office armed with the information that you gave me. They said the original grave would have been on section 5, which is now Lawn 5. It was a common grave and now the complete area has been grassed over and turned into a rememberance garden. I have taken a photo of the area where the grave would have been. I'm not sure how to upload it onto this site. However if you IM me with your e mail address i'll send the photo to you.

Best regards,

Steve
