Annie 'Nance' MORRIS and the Boys Home she founded: Can You Help Identify It Please?

Brummie On Exmoor

I have a distant relative, born Annie MORRIS in Birmingham in early 1877. Her parents were Benjamin and Emma MORRIS. Annie's family moved to Shrewsbury for a while and then returned, and Annie worked in the Jewellery trade as a young woman and lived in Wheeler Street. After 1901, the family lived in Lozells Street, Aston Manor.

I have been speaking to a distant cousin, and she tells me that Annie (known as Nance) married, but she does not have a name. It would have been after 1891. and almost certainly somewhere in or around Birmingham. Annie and her husband had no children, but they built up a home together for young boys without parents. When they died the home was turned into a trust and apparently 'became part of one of Birmingham's hospitals'.

I would love to discover more about the Home, and identify Annie's husband. Does any of this ring any bells with anyone please?

Many thanks

Jane

Thanks MWS, what a really interesting site. It is clear that there were several homes in Birmingham at the time I think Annie and her husband were working. The site does not give me any definitive answers, but it does give a lot of leads to places to start looking.

Best wishes

Jane
