Hi

Would anyone know why a woman in 1855 in Birmingham may choose to be baptised aged 61? this would give Ann a birth date of 1793. On the 1851 census she is married to a Thomas Wiggett and listed as blind. She married Thomas in 1840. On the 1861 there is a pauper by the name of A Wiggett aged 68 in the Birmingham Workhouse in the parish of All Saints. Any thoughts welcome.

Best wishes

She may have been baptised previously as non-conformist and decided to become c of e.

Or weren't you supposed to be baptised to be buried on consecrated ground? So she may just have been unsure that she had been.

First marriage appears to be to William Curran, 1816 St Botolph London.

Perhaps "baptism" was a requirement for parish aid. Was she a widow by then and in need of poor relief?
As MWS says maybe she had been baptised as a non conformist or not baptised.
