Andrews James / Samuel Kitchener

Hi,

I have been reaserching my husbands paternal family for the past 2 years, and have now started to look in depth at one Samuel Andrews - not the one in the topic heading, his father.

Samuel was born in 1887 at Sutton Coldfield, he was the 3rd son of James and Maria Andrews who lived at Gren Lanes, Sutton Coldfield. Samuel was killed at the Battle of Aisne on 27th May 1918, we know his military history but up until last week always wondered whether Sam married before the outbreak of WWI. We have now found documents which prove that he did indeed marry, one Sarah Beatrice Berry of Aston, Birmingham.

They were married in the last 1/4 of 1913, the marriege was registered in the Aston district. Their son was born on 29th August 1914 (we assume just after his father had left for France). Beatrice (she dropped her first name), registered her son's birth in Aston - and named him Samuel Kitchener James. She and her baby lived at 1 Sheffield Villas, Aston Road North.

Sam Snr and 3 brothers went to fight in WWI, 3 came back. The eldest brother Alfred was born at Kings Norton, and the rest of the children (7) at Sutton Coldfield.

After all these years of a missing link we are hoping to find any descendants of Samuel Kitchener Andrews, who would now be 93yrs old.
Does anyone one know of this family?

I have information which I would be very happy to share re the other members of the Andrews.

With thanks and regards,
Sandra

Samuel Kitchener James Andrews

I have found some more clues which may jog memories.......

Sarah Beatrice Olive Andrews (nee' Berry) mother of Sam K J, was born in 1888 she is shown in the 1891 census as living 'behind Whitmore House', Coventry Rd, Aston with her parents and 2 sisters.

In 1901 aged 13yrs, she and her family lived at 135 Sandy Lane, Aston. Her father was an Omnibus driver, Sarah worked as a warehouse girl - gold and silver.

As I wrote in the above post, she married Samuel Andrews of Sutton Coldfield in the winter of 1913, possibly at Holy Trinity, as that was the area she lived in in 1901.

Did she stay in the area after her marriage? Is this the area which Sam K J
grew up in?

Are there any super slueths out there? Especially any Andrews!

Greetings to all, Sandra
