Over the past couple of weeks I am pleased to say I have been able to help a distant member of the web ring locate family graves in Birmingham. Photos, Maps Transcriptions provided. This member was very pleased to receive this info.
It made me think that perhaps on the odd occasion I could do this for others.
But given the time and effort it takes I don't think it unreasonable to ask for a donation for the web ring. Please remember the Birmingham Web Ring is a voluntary run web site. Thanks Wendy.

Research offer- Some thoughts for comment

This is a marvellous and very generous offer. It would not only benifit members who are unable to visit repositories in Birmingham but a donation towards the the runninging costs of this excellent website would be very very welcome.

In the past I have used the research services at libraries and repositories in both Birmingham and Sandwell and they have been quite pricey with one of them charging £32 per hour plus photocopies.

Maybe Rod could think about putting a seperate section on the forum where anyone willing to do some research or get photocopies for another member could put their web name to be contacted by PM who could by return give a list of the libraries or places etc they are willing to go to and the expenses they would personally incurr such as bus fares or parking etc and maybe an agreed standard website donation required for the service.

I dont know how payments could be sorted out, but it is in principle a very good idea. What does anyone else think?
