As we commemorate the 80th anniversary of the ending of the Second World War it is important to remember the millions who did not serve on the front line but nevertheless provided an essential war service. The Home Guard carried out a vital role in Britain during the war. David will give an overview of the history of the Warwickshire (Birmingham) Home Guard with a special emphasis on the south of the city and Kings Heath. He will focus on biographies of local men and make some interesting comparisons with characters in the popular TV series Dad’s Army. He will show some rare pictures and bring along some very interesting artefacts.
David is a Birmingham based historian and well known expert on the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He has a unique collection of photographs, documents medals and artefacts. He regularly gives talks on the history of the regiment in both world wars. His talks are always most enlightening and entertaining.
