I have established were the amphibious tanks were tested prior to D-Day.............
But still need help to locate the Pool
Near the Ye Olde White Horse Public House (built in 1835) about two miles from Sutton Coldfield on a bright morning in 1944 South African General Smuts and Field Marshall Slim with all the staff came to test in James Pool amphibious tanks to be used on D Day
There is a White Horse pub in Whitehouse Common Lane is this the pub or a different one ?
Where is James Pool ?

Lindridge Road forks off Whitehouse Common Road and goes back of Falcon Lodge Estate. Off Lindridge Road near the junction with Springfield Road there is a stream and two largish pools. This is about a mile from the White horse Pub.
Is this any help?
Mike

I looked at those two pools Mike today called Lindridge Pool(Osier Beds by the side for the cultivation of Willow) and Langley Pool but need someone from Sutton to tell me if they have ever heard of James Pool.......

Aston info is part correct but not what I wanted, I know the Armed forces had a post office in Sutton Park but wanted to know a bit more, I will post what I know in the WW2 posters Thanks for info

Closing in on James Pool.........if anyone can ID were this is ..."Ye Old White Horse" photo taken late 40's

The only WHITE HORSE Pub I know of in that area is the one on Whitehouse Common Road, but I have only ever heard it called the White Horse & not the Ye Old White Horse?
There are a number of small pools in that area but I do not think they would ever be big enough to test a tank in although they my have been bigger back in the 40s?
That was the area I have been asking around with no luck so far.

Well Aston in the bar it should have a queer old clock which has been ticking away regular for a 100 years or so .....and it was a regular stop in the early mornings with the Tamworth market gardeners on their way to Birmingham Market........so could that be it ?

Finally found out were the Amphibious tanks were tested, in a disused brickyard in Barnard Road. Also there was a tank testing site along the rising ground on the Canwell side of Camp Road

Barnard Road makes sence, it is dirctly opposite the White Horse pub.

Amphibious Tank Testing

Found this today,Taken from thefront page of the SUTTON NEWS Dated May 12th 1945.
In this the Testing Ground for the Amphibious Tanks would seem to be of BARNARD ROAD at THE OLD BRICKYARD POOL?
I donot know if you have this Info Cromwell but you were in the right area in the other posts.

Found "THAT" Photo at last "JAMES POOL SUTTON COLDFIELD" The place used to test AMPHIBIOUS TANKS in World War II.
This pool used to be situated between WHITEHOUSE COMMON RD & BEDFORD RD just of BARNARD RD.
