Americana

I have just been reading through a 1959 diary of mine, and in 1958/59 I seem to have gone to the Americana quite often. Does anyone know where this was, I just can't remember? Around the same time I used to go to Studio 1, which was held above the Golden Cross Pub at Aston, so I wonder if this is where the Americana was as well. I used to go to the Cha Cha nights and Modern Jazz club nights there.

Judy - I know it is quite different but could it be the Lacarno Ball Room, We used to go there a lot at that time. We loved it, just not the walk across town especially in high heels and net petticoats the rain from Snow Hill station where the #70 bus dropped us off. :DanceBallerina2:Mo

Hi Mo

No, the Americana was definitely not at the Locarno. I used to go to the Locarno on Saturday nights also. Lived in Quinton at the time and got the No.9 bus to Victoria Square and walked down to Hurst Street from there - trying to look cool even in the rain and snow! I loved the Locarno but more especially the Tudor Bar upstairs!

I asked my sister about the Americana the other day, and she thought it was somewhere in Erdington over a pub. She said she remembered it being out of town and a bit out of the way, so we didn't go there too much.
