Ambulance service 1940s onwards

The ambulance service joined with the fire service as the NHS came into being. It obviously took some time for people to realise ambulances were available to all. Viv.

I recall a similar thing, what was essentially just a small builders truck with a canvas cover operating as an ambulance in Kingstanding, it turned at speed from Sidcup Road into the Kings Road and knocked down an unfortunate pedestrian crossing the road, the driver and his mate picked up the victim and chucked him in the back'
I never heard or saw anything about it at the time so no idea of the outcome.
