Hello everyone :)

I can't seem to find a birth certificate for my grandfather's first wife and I was wondering if anyone could kindly help me out?

The lady's name is Ruth Sylvia Ambrose and although I was told she was born in 1901, the ages/dates on her marriage certificates point towards 1905.

She was born in Gloucester and her parents were Frances Alice Ambrose and Edward Ambrose. When she married my grandfather they were living in Aston but went over to Australia where she stayed after their divorce (grandad came back to Birmingham).

Do hope someone can help me out and thank you in advance :)

Re: Looking for Ruth Ambrose - Birth Entry Help Please

i have looked through all the records from 1900 to 1906 and couldnt find anything. are you absolutely sure of the names or could she have been born abroad? maybe its been mistranscribed. the nearest i can see is sylvia ruth bohanna born bham 1903 but not likely that ambrose could become bohanna!

best of luck chris

Re: Looking for Ruth Ambrose - Birth Entry Help Please

Hi Chris

Thank you so much for your reply and for taking a look at the birth entries for me :)

When I found out about Ruth I did try looking for her birth on ancestry (as I used to be a member) but couldn't find anything. I've been baffled by it ever since and wondered if it was actually there but I just couldn't see it.

She has been married twice and both certificates put her birth around the 1905 mark and state she was from Gloucester and her father was Edward Ambrose. Her mother Frances died in Australia and on the death certificate it shows that her children were Ruth Sylvia Howell (2nd marriage surname), Archibald Ambrose and Nancy Ambrose.

I'm trying to find a record of Ruth's death over in Australia too but she just seems to have completely vanished :( It's a bit of a longshot but I was wondering if there were any other middle names on her birth certificate that I could try searching under. It's a huge brick wall that I just can't seem to get past.

Thank you once again Chris for kindly taking a look for me - it's much appreciated :)
