Thomas Hughes is listed in the 1888 directory (which would refer to 1887) as having a Straw hat warehouse and fancy draper at 142-147 Steelhouse lane. John Ambler has 43 Soho Road listed as a private address and as a commercial address as "commercial traveller" . Possibly he travelled in straw hats?
43 Soho Road was two doors before Soho Road station, on the south side of the road, and, from the 1889 map ( https://www.british-history.ac.uk/m...eetid=10080&ox=0&oy=0&zm=1&czm=10&x=335&y=382 ),seems to be quite a largish house.
142-7 Steelhouse lane can be seen on the 1889 map at https://www.british-history.ac.uk/m...d=10098&ox=1799&oy=684&zm=1&czm=1&x=247&y=128 as quite a large building between Slaney St and Snow Hill.

Re: John Ambler - WHO IS HE?

the boys family were living at 5 wetham lane, which i think I found near there. His father was a " Drapers" commercial traveller also.

Perhaps his employer, before je died in 1886, and the sureties were for a London travellers school.

Are you any good with deaths only I have a story about this father dying in Snow Hill Staion or at least being his by a train.. but his death certificate ( well the one i found!! ) says
Hemiplegia Left Ph(i or s)iois syncope.. would this be something totally different or is it possible this could be something brought on by being hit?
Would there be any stories in the paper. I have tried to find something but never come up with anything .. this site in a week has got me more than in 7 YEARS!!

ALL BECAUSE OF YOU GREAT PEOPLE..

THANK YOU

Re: John Ambler - WHO IS HE?

Hemiplegia is a condition in which one-half of a patient's body is paralyzed.
Syncope is a sudden but brief loss of consciousness which is caused by inadequate blood supply to the brain.

Re: John Ambler - WHO IS HE?

would that be something that he would died at home from or

as the story goes he was hit by a train or could that be possible?
