Alpha Tower, Suffolk Street

I worked in Alpha Tower for a few months back in the late 70's as a temp for the Dept of Employment, writing Giro cheques for young people on Youth Employment courses - all hand written in those days!
I think we were on the 12th floor.

I was on the 24th floor ASparks working for the Manpower Services Commission - executive arm of the Dept of Employment. We moved to AT from Windsor House (above Rackhams) in about 1980. I was working on manpower intelligence - preparing ministerial briefing, data and statistical reports about labour supply, demographic analysis etc. I liked working at AT. On the plus side : they were modern, clean open plan offices, great views and very fast lifts. On the negative side: a bit cut off from the shops and a nightmare when it came to fire drills. All those stairs from the 24th floor, very dizzy when you got to the bottom.

So we may have crossed paths, even shared a lift! Viv.

We may well have done and, strangely enough, I also worked in Windsor House!
I was with the Inland Revenue there for a few years in the 70's.

Small world ! We were spoilt when we were at Windsor House right at the centre of everything. When we moved to AT it felt very cut off from Town. I’ve mentioned elsewhere that the area around AT felt very unfinished and almost abandoned. Viv.
