This building is described by the Illustrated London News as one of Birmingham's most beautiful buildings. Well I can see why. And how nice it is to be able to say, the building's still with us.
Interesting point in the description attached that when the company bought up the District Fire Office in New Street in the 1860s, they acquired fire engines and fire staff with the premises - this was before the City fire brigade came into being. The engines were given to the Birmingham Fire Brigade when it was at Upper Priory.
