Hi Rich,

I found this on the web
Church Records

Church of England Registers
The register of All Saints, West Bromwich, commences in 1608. The original registers for the period 1608-1958 (Bapts), 1608-1984 (Mar) & 1608-1956 (Bur), and Banns for the period 1768-1777 & 1868-1887 are deposited at Sandwell Community History & Archives Service.
Bishops Transcripts for the period 1676-1868 (with gaps 1684, 1714, 1735-37 & 1829) are deposited at Lichfield Record Office. Transcripts of the West Bromwich All Saints registers have been published by the Birmingham & Midland SGH as follows:
Part 1, Marriages 1822-1837
Part 2, Marriages 1795-1822
Part 3, Marriages 1658-1794
Part 4, Baptisms 1660-1772
Part 5 Baptisms & Marriages 1608-1659, Burials 1608-1658 (originally published by the Staffordshire Parish Register Society in 1909)

I am not sure if the registers for marriages are on line, or if it would need to be a visit to the Sandwell archives

thanks evergreen
was trying my luck to see if anybody had the records
will probably send for the certificate

regards rich

Hello...sorry to be the bearer of bad news but there will not be a certifcate to send for in regards to this marriage...certificates for BMD did not come in force until September 1837. There will be no mention of Fathers names or occupations on a marriage in 1831, although the names of the witnesses may be of help to you.

Regards,
Margaret.

Thank you for replying
do you have any suggestions for me to look further

thanks again rich

i had the same problem with records from 1815 in Bristol ..i phoned the church and they helped me with parish records.:).i think All Saints may still be there ..worth a try ringing if they are:) ..any members know if the church is still there

Hello again...I suggest that you look at Rootschat.Co & ask on the Staffordshire County forum if anyone can do this lookup for when they are next doing their own research...it may take a while but folk will always help if they can. You will need to register on the site (free to do so). Happy hunting....

Margaret.

All Saints, or 'Old Church' as it is known locally, is a beautiful place and well worth a visit. When I was a lad it was almost the 'countryside' there.

Dear Rich
I went to the Stafford archives today and whilst I was there looked up the marriage you are interested in; the entry in the parish registers of All Saints, West Bromwich reads as follows.....

John Finney, of this parish, bachelor married Elizabeth Orton, of this parish, spinster; by banns with consent of friends (!?) on the twentyfirst day of May 1831; ceremony performed by James Shay; both bride and groom signed their names in the register; witnesses were John Hayes and Elizabeth Hayes (x)

I double checked the reference to consent of friends (other entries in the register refer to parents giving consent) and don't quite know what this means!

Hope this helps
Regards
Andy Parkes

Thanks Andy
thats very nice of you to go to that trouble
Been away working so sorry for the late reply
John was from Liverpool so makes sense that his parents were not there
hope someone could shed some light on this

It's a lovely church my parents were married there. I am sure there is some more online info I will check my records.

I visted this church back in February whilst searching for my brothers grave in Heath Lane cemetery.

My mother always told me that her grandfather helped to install the clock in the church tower so i couldn't pass by without going in for a look around.

I did manage to climb to the top of the clock tower but all i found were a lot of spiders webs and a hundred years worth of dirt and dust.

The gentleman i saw on that particular day, the church warden i suppose, told me that he was mentioned during the service each Sunday.

When i enquired why that was, he told me his name was Mr Lord.

As someone said it is a lovely church but is not the original building, which was demolished and rebuilt in the late 19th century.
