Alfred Smith. Hot Stamper Accident

Please can anyone help?

My grandfather, Alfred Smith, was a Hot Stamper in 1926/early 1927.

It is said that he had a bad accident, where his hand/arm was caught...it apparently sent him insane and he died in All Saints.

Would there be an accident reporting system or some way of finding out which factory he worked in or details of the accident??

He died July 1927. He had 3 young babies, 5, 3 and 4 months when he died so I would assume that it must have happened 1926 early 1927.

If you have any little piece of info I would be grateful
Best Regards
Bernie

I would think that the Coroners Court would be your best bet for this.

Coroners Court would only deal with an unexplained death as the coroner as to determine the reason behind the death, and or who was responsable. If he was classed insane he would have died in a workhouse infirmary, what was the area where he lived as there where many drop forging factories in and around Birmingham.
a hot stamping accident with an arm involved could have been with the hammer trapping is arm between the dyes or the belt drive breaking and striking his arm.

Do you have a death certificate for Alfred? some later certificates hold quite a few snippets of info, which may give you more to go on.

He didnt die from the accident..he went insane because of it. The post mortem was carried out at the hospital All saints Mental Asylum ( winson Green). It wouldnt have gone to a coroners court. The death certificate shows paralysis..

Was there a ROSPA or Factory Accident records body for Birmingham around 1926/1927.?
Regards
Bernie
