Alfred Dauncey - Undertaker

Jules65

master brummie
On my great Grandfather's wedding certificate, his occupation is that of Undertaker. He was living in Great Colmore Street, Birmingham. Can anyone find any information about him please. He married Clara Fanny Jackson on 7th April 1890 at the Parish Church of St. Thomas, Birmingham.

Alfred Dauncey was born in Eastington Glos 1858.

Clara Fanny Dauncey died in 1895 age 29,it would appear in childbirth as there is an entry for a newborn Clara Fanny Dauncey at the same time.

1891 Fordrough street, birmingham St thomas.

Alfred dauncey age 34 born Eastington Glos coffin maker
Clara dauncey age 24 b. birmingham

1861 Mill end Eastington,Glos

Daniel Dauncey age 44 b. North Nibley Glos Woollen weaver
Elizabeth age 49 b. Uley
Albert age 19
Ann age 18
Oliver age 16
Mary age 15
Charlotte age 12
Joseph age 10
Alfred age 3

I think that they had a son in 1891 who was called George Daniel, that fits in with Alfreds fathers name
George Daniel is proving hard to find in 1901 as is Alfred.

A George D Dauncey married Violet Mason in 1915.Birmingham

Just found 1901 entry, typical of some census entries nothing like the surname.

25 Upper Marshall street, boarding with John Thurston and family.

Alfred Born? age 45 Widower b. Eastington Glos Carpenter

Alfred died in 1908 age 59,so poor George must have had a sad life.

A great big hank you to everyone for the information provided - it is official this is the best site I have ever visited! You all never fail to surprise me with the quickness and quality of information provided. THANK YOU.

I think George must have had a sad early life. He died in 1960 so I never knew him though my brothers and sister did. He was I believe a strict father (but was of an age where that was the norm). He joined the army as a young man and served in Africa. Family legend has it that he was on his way by ship back to England when he was diverted to France because of WW1. What makes a young man join the army, perhaps it was to escape his hard life in Birmingham.

Is there anyway to find out what George Daniel Dauncey's profession was?

His death certificate should record his occupation.

Deaths March Quarter 1960
Dauncey, George D, Age 68, Birmingham, 9c 136
