Toft was born in Hunters Lane, Handswoth in 1862. He produced many military pieces. Brummies will probably be mostly familiar with his Cannon Hill Park Memorial, Edward VII statue and the bronze figures around the exterior of the Hall of Memory. The Boer War Memorial in Cannon Hill Park is Grade II listed. Toft produced this in 1906. It has since had restoration to bring it back to its original style state.

Here he is working on the Air Force figure for the Hall of Memory. The newspaper article is probably 1924.

And here he is with his Edward VII statue.
