Cromwell, is it true that wrist watches became popular during the first world war, because officers found them easier to use than pocket watches?
 
Nick, A lot of the pocket watches were converted into a compass and if a pocket watch was in your pocket it could get knocked about quiet a bit so the old wrist watch with a metal grill cover was quiet popular

Alfred Bird invented the egg free custard because his wife had an intolerence to eggs. My Mom said it was very good during the war but you still had to use your ration book to get it!

I think I remember my grandma having Komo mop - wasn't there a bucket with a strainer that you could squeeze the wet mop into?
