Are there any photos or information on Adams street. My dad (F. Earp) lived there.

Hi, Chrissy,

I joined Heartlands only recently and was browsing through the posts when I came across yours and your reference to Adams Street and your Dad (F. Earp).

I grew up in Adams Street and did know of "The Earps", who lived just below me, and I am almost certain that your Dad would probably have been the lad I knew as "Freddie". I remember, also, Denis, who - if I recall correctly - married the ginger-haired sister of Maurice Gibbs (also ginger-haired!), a family who used to live up the next yard to mine.

That's about all I can say at the moment, Chrissy. I left the area a long time ago and old-age memories fade, I'm afraid. But your post started a few memory "shoots" springing up and already one or two other names are floating to the surface - names such as: The Hudsons; the Terrys: The Holders (Billy Holder went down with his ship during the war); and, of course, my own name - Pedley. I'm sure one or two of your older relatives would remember these names...

Anyway, I'll have to leave it at that. If I can help your enquiries in any way, I will.

With regards,

Jim Pedley

According to the electoral roll, Richard and Elizabeth Earp were at no 52 in 1912 - 1935 at least.
A Richard (another?) and Hannah were at no 47 in 1935/9, and an Eliza at no 45 in 1939.

I was born in Adams Street in 1938 and lived there until 1943.Unfortunately thats as much as I remember. My Grans maiden name was Fanny Holtham from Adams Street and she lived in Dartmouth Street until her death in 1963.Her house was gas powered and never ever had electricity installed.I used to take the accumulator for her radio to Fletchers to be charged up.Happy memories.
Bryan.

Hi Everyone, I am related to the Pedley family who died in a fire in Adams Street in 1927. I am trying to find out what happened to Charles Pedley, the father, who did not perish in the fire. Can anyone help?

My grandad on my mum's side of the family was Dennis Earp of Adams Street in Nechells. He had about 17 (!) brothers and sisters and I'm struggling to find out who they all are. He had a brother Freddie who may be your dad Chrissy?! Dennis married Ethel Harrison, also from Nechells (Procter Street maybe?). Dennis died in 1968 and my nan lost touch with all of the Earps. I think his parents were Richard and Elizabeth. The names of brothers and sisters I think are William, Richard, Elizabeth, Thomas, Leah, Harry, Lenny, Freddie and Dolly but now I'm stuck. If anyone can help that would be great. Thank you :-) Rachel

Hi Jim,

Sorry to hijack your reply to someone else but I've only just started researching my family (the Walkers who lived at 2 back of 27 Adams Street), while looking for them I came across some Pedleys - I noticed them because my Moms best friend was Florrie Pedley. I saw her in January this year sadly at my Moms funeral. Mom was 89 when she passed away. I'm in touch with Florrie's Daughter, as I was going to do some research for her on the Pedley family of Adams Street when I'd made some progress with my own family research. I wonder if you're related to them. I believe Florrie and her 2 or 3 Sisters were adopted by the family, and I think one of the girls married one of the sons. Does this ring any bells, sorry to be a bit vague but I've literally just started all of this.

Regards,

Hi Deb004

I'm sorry to have to tell you that (pedlarman) Jim passed away some time back, in 2011 I believe. He made quite a few posts and I had some interesting conversations with him. Perhaps if you looked through some of his posts you mind be able to glean some information.

Hi Phil,

How sad. Thank you for letting me know. I will have a look through and see what he posted, hopefully he will have been related to the people I know, and maybe I will have solved one puzzle for them if Jim was a long lost relative.

Thanks again,

deb004
