Accident in Grosvenor St, Bham 5.

Strawberry Hunter

My grandfather was killed in an accident on 28 April 1965. My family believes that the accident made the newspaper.

How could I Iook up this information, which newspaper could it have been in? Birmingham Evening Mail?

I am not familiar with the Birmingham newspapers.

My grandfather was called Sidney Harold Strawbridge and he worked for the water board.

kat as mike said the birmingham mail is not online yet for that year so a trip to the library maybe an idea and you do have the exact date of the incident so that would cut down your time in searching...

Depending on the type of accident and the locality an account could appear in a non-regional paper. As you have the exact date would you be able to provide a little more evidence ?

Oh, OK, sorry, online archives. I see what you mean if I go to the library then and give the exact date I may find something.

Thanks for putting me right.

I'm hoping to go when the weather is a bit better.

I was thinking more on the lines of asking the forum, as some members have access to national newspapers online. What type of accident, a road accident, a factory accident ? If it was a fatality it is sometimes reported without a name and not always followed up.

Yes I saw that Lyn but thought maybe a family member might be able to get access to it where the general public can't.
eric think it was i 2012 i contacted the coroners office about an inquest in my family in 1945 ... they said that they could email me copies of the inquest..police and neighbour statements and also the post mortem report...i just printed it off when it came..think back then it cost me just £11...hasten to add i did have the death certificate stating a post mortem had been held..so if kat knows for certain a post mortum was held it could be worth her while contacting the birmingham coroners office
