A Sorry State Of Affairs

Hi All,

On Saturday I watched the Ladies Football Club Cup Final on Sky TV, B'ham City Ladies v Chelsea Ladies. It was a very good game and I think that ladies football is improving all the time. After 90 minutes the scores were level so extra time was played. This ended 2 - 2 so the game went to penalties, the climax to a great game. Just as the penalties were about to start Sky TV switched to the next program the first division play off final. The penalties were not shown and I had to find out that B'ham City had won on teletext later.

This I felt was very bad form. It was an insult to ladies football in general and the two teams playing in particular. It was also an affront to all the watchers. I would dispense with Sky but i do love my football and they have a near monopoly.

one of many reasons my interest as waned in football is because it is monopolised by Sky, i'm to old to go to matches now but I don't intend to pay Sky for the privelidge. Other reasons being grotesque transfer fees and absolutely obscene players wages ensuring only a few clubs can gain a trophy or win the EPL, also I like my football 3pm on a Saturday, and not other days/times as dictated by FA/Sky with no thought of what the fans may want who are afterall the live blood of football - NO fans NO football. By the way my congratulations to Blues Ladies, Well Done. A Villa supporter who no longer goes to matches

Fairly typical of Sky's approach, Old Boy, with little respect for either the customer or the producer of the entertainment. Have you ever tried to watch a decent bit of drama on Sky Atlantic (all there because they have the cash to outbid the BBC)? I gave up the day after launch.

Me too, but have to say although Sky cut off the ladies match. at least they showed it and well done Blues ladies! I prefer the other shaped balls and the ladies coverage of that is almost non-existent,again, when it is shown, often gets just a few minutes - poor show indeed.

Hi Cookie,

I agree with everything you say Unfortunately I do not have your strength of mind to tell Sky TV to get stuffed. It would be cutting off my nose to spite my face,

Old Boy, many years ago I subscribed to a cable company called Tele West (don't know what become of them) and paid exra for films and extra for sport, realised after a time was watching very few films and little in the way of sport, so cancelled my subscription. Now I make do with Freeview and find it satisfies what little TV I do watch and as I have said my interest in football as waned for reasons mentioned, it is now a completely unfair playing field and governed by money, I see the day when all Premiership clubs will be foreign owned, mostly foreign managers (coaches?) and the the players mostly non English. I also preferred the time when English clubs were just involved in the Leagues, the League Cup and the FA Cup, there is now too much football in my humble opinion, there hardly seems to be a close season. Also I do not beleive in the Play Offs, promotion should go to the top three I know some will disagree with this. Rant over. Eric

WE do not have sky, but the wife noticed the match in the listings - not a word on local news until after the event - typical!
We should have been shouting about being in a final!

for some unknown reason Midlands football has always come second to the North nd South, if the ladies Final had been (say) Chelsea v Arsenal they would have shown the penalties. Eric

I watched the ladies cup final on sky and when it came to the penalties just pressed the red button as explained you didn't need to change channels. I imagine It would have been annoying if you had taped it though.
