Slightly off-thread here as it's a radio show.
As far as I can tell this is a period detective show set in Birmingham. The vagueness is from the show itself not mine. The central character is from Wolverhampton (although not originally) and moved back to the city that she was born in. At one point the city is referred to as "centre of the British motor trade" and one suburb is named after two suburbs of Birmingham. The period is also vague. I'd guess 50s but it could be later. I'm only on the second episode and they've just used the word Birmingham for the first time.
