A bit about my son Duncan and his football passion

jennyann

Gone but not forgotten. R.I.P.
The Vancouver Province newspaper published a story today about my son Duncan and his passion for football. His love of Aston Villa and the Vancouver Whitecaps Soccer team. It's a funny article since Duncan has been on many road trips to support the Whitecaps over the past three years and has seen no wins on the road. He is the official photographer for the Southsiders Supporters group. Duncan designs FIFA video games at Electronic Arts in the Vancouver area. He once flew to London and travelled up to Brum to watch an Aston Villa game over a weekend! I even get an oblique mention in the piece! https://www.theprovince.com/sports/...ecaps+road+games+zero+wins/8907718/story.html

Jennyann I think Duncan is their unlucky mascot. Saw the bit about his Birmingham born mom. Thanks for sharing that with us all. Jean.

Hi Jennyann - Was he a lucky charm for Aston Villa, did they win when he watched them ?

Hi OldMohawk: I can't remember what the score was on that occasion I will have to ask him. A few years ago Duncan was in the
Food and Beverage business and went to live and work in Brum for a year at the Hyatt Hotel in Broad Street. He went to several matches at the Villa at that time
I know. Another time I took him on a mystery jaunt. He guessed before too long that we were going to see the old Trinity Stand and buildings being demolished. He was both sad and happy. At our family house in Erdington we could see the Trinity Stand from one of the back bedroom windows. Duncan was in Brum four years ago and went on the tour of the Villa grounds, etc. with his Uncle. He had a great time. He has so many Villa shirts, scarfs, etc.
One of our neighbours in Erdington sent him a pennant and a belt when he was 8 years old and his love of the Villa started then. There are a few Aston Villa fans in Vancouver who meet up to view the games when they are played.

He is off to Montreal very soon to support the Whitecaps and regardless of all the losses he has witnessed we are hoping the Whitecaps will
prevail and win a game on the road when he is in attendance.

As of today the "Monkey" is off Duncan's back. The Whitecaps had a fab game in Montreal winning 3-0 with two goals scored
by Camilo in the last few minutes. My nails and many other people's were getting a good biting towards the end of the game. Finally, Duncan gets to witness a win on the road. Aston Villa won today as well. The sports radio stations in Vancouver are saluting Duncan today in their broadcasts even calling him Dunc after the article last week in the Province newspaper.
