Hi, I'm new to the forum and am searching for the above addresses which were shown for my Coope family on the 1871 & 1881 census. The double addressing is new to me. The family also lived on Henry St, William Coope was a glass cutter and I assumed he worked at the nearby Union Glass Works.
Were these back-to-back houses and the addresses were for the courtyard door number? I cannot find anything on Ashted Place, only Ashted Row.

This forum is awesome!

Below is a map (c 1888) showing Ashted Place, Francis St in red . Presumably no 1 was the one nearest the road. Also , in blue is no 88 Willis St. the green houses (which look rather small), even for the period must be the back houses, but there are only 3 shown. IKt is possible that there were more houess in the court in 1871 , or, more likely that the main building, no 88, was subdivided.

I'm not sure what I'm doing trying to reply, but am very grateful for the information. It is so specific. That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you for being so prompt. I found the photos on a different thread to be very eye-opening. After William died from lung disease his wife and 2 daughters went to the Aston Union Workhouse where she died. A daughter, my husband's grandmother, emigrated to Canada or the US as a child, eventually marrying in Detroit and moving to Cleveland. Thank you for helping us learn about her childhood, something she never talked about.

Hello Mike
I would like to know if you have any info on Spooner street Vauxhall, my family lived at number 26 in the 1920's up to 1958 when the council
made a compulsory order to purchase the properties

Bill
not sure what you want, but here are two maps of Spooner st, in 1889 (with a number of the houses including 26 numbered) and a smaller scale one c1951 with no 26 numbered.
