Just wondering if anyone can locate who was living at 4 Summerville Terrace in Harborne Staffordshire (Birmingham on mailing address) 1900-1920? Thanks!

May I ask where you found the address?
A lot of "terraces" were simply rows of houses on or off a street. So without the street name it may be difficult to locate. Also it may only be possible to find it on census records and not for years between.

i take it the postcard does not have the name of the recipient on it

1911 4 Summerville Terrace

Joseph Charles Green , 51
Ellen Louisa hill 52
Ellen hill 73, widow , wifes mother
John robert Hill age 40 , married, visitor
George victor Hill 13 visitor

Johns wife Alice and daughter Rhoda May age 4 are at a different address in 1911
but all the family John , Alice , George and Rhoda are at Heath cottage , Doddenham in 1921.

John married Alice Griffiths in 1897 and Joseph Charles Green was a witness

If it is the Hill family you are interested in , I have found an entry of John Robert Hill of Doddenham wife Alice, in RAF entry in 1918
if this is when he left the service it probably meant that he flew for the Royal Air Corps in WW1.

The address does not seem to be listed on 1901 census so, as it is on a map surveyed then, I suspect it was built , (or being built) but not occupied.

was it john Robert Hill you refer to in post 9 Lyn.
On 1901 census he is at No,9 Road leading to Martley,Doddenham with wife Alice and young son George

Thank you so much ! That is very thorough!! Love the pics and maps and streetviews and ad too! I'm not sure exactly who I'm looking for yet but all this info is very helpful. I love this forum!

Ah. Ellen Hill was Louise Green's mother. So - The Greens and Hills in 1911 living there are related families, and the Green's are still there in 1921. That works as it turns out I'm following up the Green's. Thanks again!
