2 back 192 Tower Road Aston 1944-1946

Brummie babby
Hello Brummies!! My name is Julie and I was born and raised in Birmingham. I started my search 20 years ago for my dad who was adopted in 1946 at the age of 2. I think I have found his birth mother, but can find no trace of her in records on Ancestry etc. If anyone remembers an Olwyn Mary Phillips (I think she used Mary) living at the above address in 1944-1946? Ive attached a photograph of her. Any leads would be gratefully received.IMG_4470 2.JPG

1945 eroll only lists an Ethel K Harding at 2 back of 192 Tower Road but Mary may have been too young to vote.

There seem to be 2 possible spellings- Olwyn and Olwen. Either way the name with Phillips surname is a common Welsh name so identifying the right one is tricky.
I hoped the "Heath" bit would help but it hasn't so far.

Thank you. I believe she was local, the family that adopted my dad knew her so I dont think she just came to Birmingham to have the baby. Ill look for Harding on other records and see if she is there.

I found the 'Heath' lady on ancestry but she seems to be very elusive also. Thanks for your help.

Is there a way I can message members of the forum? I found another post from years ago where members were discussing Tower Rd. I wondered if I could message them directly?

yes...click on the members name then click on send direct message...this message is private between yourself and the member ...hope this helps

I think she married in 1939 so we can probably rule her out.
Marriage of Olwyn M H Phillips reg 1939

I don't think the Olwen M H Phillips who married in 1939 is not the same as the one on Lyn's census post. Her birth was reg. in Barnet 1912. She and Trefor are listed at 75 Clydesdale Road Quinton in 1939.

I was referring to the one on the eroll in Handsworth. Post #3

Interestingly on the 1945 ER her husband still appears to be listed at 75 Clydesdale Road but I'm not sure if she is (from search results only).

Also her death is reg. in Hertfordshire whilst his is reg. in Flintshire.

He is on the Service Register so no wives listed

It was 40 years ago when my aunt (dads step sister-in-law) told me about his adoption. I dont remember her saying anything about Mary being married. The lore is that the father was an american/canadian based in the uk during WW2, but many distant relis have told me this was a common story during the war to make an unmarried pregnancy sound more exotic. On ancestry I have two unrelated 2nd cousins linked by DNA - one family based in Wales and the other in Sheffield - I have written to the welsh one to see if Olwen (Mary) could be related to his family. Thank you for your help, it is appreciated :)
