1977 Silver Jubilee Street Party - Wadale Road, Northfield, Birmingham

Wasdale

proper brummie kid
I'm writing a short childhood memoir (will post a link for a free Kindle download whne it's ready) and I came across these photos of our street party for the Silver Jubilee. I wondered if anyone else had any from other parts of Brum?

In the final photo everyone was waving to a grumpy driver who wanted to drive down Wasdale Road but we'd had special permission to close our street so he had no alternative but to reverse and find another way to his destination!

I don't have any photos now but remember it well. We had a street party and had a visit from the Wombles. I made a large jar of "bubbly" out of wire mesh covered with paper and painted to fit our 8 year old daughter for the children's fancy dress competition which she won. I still have it in the loft - don't ask me why !!!

How lovely! Yes as you can see from the photos i posted we had a fancy dress competition for the children too. I can't remember which one won, but they were all winners in my book, i thought they all looked swell.
