Remember the little red booklet? That was my first driving licence. I past my test just after they made Automatic and Manual gearboxes different classes. The number on the licence was SS/007.Even James Bond did not have one of those. Broke my heart when I had to change it for the green one.

Hi,have a close look at the licence Lyn has pictured,do my eyes deceive my,or does it say valid from 1225---------?
meanwhile , here's a licence circa 1960
I remember my first licence.It was a provisional,obviously,and it cost 10/- (fifty pence in todays money)and was valid for 6 months,this was in 1960.Only up to 4 licences would be issued before it was compulary to take a test.This was to stop motorcyclists riding indefinitely without taking a test,as ther were no restrictions on engine capacity for learners then.Indeed,my first motorcycle was a Norton Model 18,of 499 c.c.Car driving lessons were £1 a lesson,and my driving test cost,I think, a£1,though the figure of 15/-(75 pence)seems to crop up in my brain.It all seems so cheap now,but it was a lot of money then.............Mal

it's clear to me that it says valid from 26th March 1925.I did enlarge it to 200% though.

does anyone remember the old military licence, and have any photo's
