170 Brearley Street

Whilst searching the electoral rolls for possible ancestor I came across an entry in the 1925 electoral rolls which lists this ancestor at no 170 Brearley Street. My problem is that it also lists 9 other people, none of whom share a common surname. Could this address be some sort of hotel or hostel or something similar? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

jim i would say more likely to be a hostel or boarding house...were the occupants all of one sex

lyn

No Lyn there was a mixture of men and women but having looked on google etc it seems that there was a lot of industry all around that address.

9 differently named occupants sounds like boarders to me. Do you have occupations for the other named occupants ? Are they in the same line of work ? Are they all single ? Viv.

The type of housing in Brearley Street (pre slum clearance) can be seen in this link on the Shoothill site, but unfortunately it doesn’t show buildings at or around 170 Brearley Street. However it’ll give you an idea of the locality. Just type in Brearley in the search box. Viv.
