Was this a fruit and veg shop in the 1930s? pics or info anyone? Who owned the property, who ran the shop? Thanks

Hi Journocy

I can tell you that in 1937 168 High Street was a fruit shop and it was owned, managed, or run by a Harold Woodward.

Hello again

I just had a look through my photos and found this photo of the High St taken in 1930. The shop you are interested in was on the corner of South Rd. This photo shows the South Rd junction on the right. The shop is on the far side of the road and if you look closely you can see what appears to be fruit & veg displayed outside.

I have just seen your thread regarding vegetable shop Harborne and also the picture. My Dad worked in the shop around 1929 when he left school. His name was Burt Worton and he lived in St Johns Terrace off North Road. The Wortons were quite a well known family in Harborne. I and my brother spent a lot of time there growing up. We used to play in the fields the back of St Johns terrace which is now a car park for all the new shops. I rememer it being called a village. My Dad used to say. Harborne was Kipper and Curtains. Having lace curtains to keep up with Edgbaston but eating kippers for tea. Very Happy Memories.
