Hi

Could anyone tell me if 15 Louisa Street was a residence in 1873 please.

I suspect it is, but I have just found a relation living there in 1873 who is listed as a painter and decorator.

It's been 24 hours of discovery as regards my family tree.

Thank you

In the 1878 directory there is at number 15

Strawbridge Wm Joseph Painter

Hi Kat,

In 1873 15 Louisa Street was listed under William Joseph Strawbridge painter

Sorry horsencart we were posting at the same time.

That's a bit difficult to answer from a listing in a trade directory, though it is listed as his private address as well as his business address so perhaps he was working from home?

Yes, good one Phil, I think that's right, but I wanted to run it past the Oracle's (members) on here.

If the name is listed with a profession then it can usually be assumed he was running his business from there. Small painters and decorators usually ran their businesses from home

Pedrocut, you never fail to amaze me with your news clipings, having a dog there would proberly mean it was a residence. Brilliant.

Hi Pedrocut

Thanks for the newspaper clipping. How fab that you have managed to find that. It freaked me out a bit until I read it twice, I thought it said a 'fawn coloured pug' to begin with! There are two fawn coloured pugs in the family and I have one of them!!!!!
