    As I remember it, I loved old Northfield. Worked there as a boy, Army Cadets were there, went swimming there, and drank there when older, and used the old cinema!!

    One of my enduring memories, aged about 8, is walking down Temple Row, after meeting my Uncle Joe, and Aunty Ivy, off the train at Snow Hill. It was an Autumn day, and there were mass's of starlings, blackening the sky, swirling and diving in formation, captivating for a young un!!

    As a lad , I met through my dad , Ex Royal Warwicks, South Staffs, and Worc's men, all I believe served in the far East, there seemed to be many midlands Regt's there!!

    Thinking on the theme of, #263, though not in Birmingham, my wife's grandfather was carter, started at 13 as a plough boy, he spoke often that he started each day at 3 30am, spent an hour grooming and dressing his 2 plough horses, preparing the plough , and regularly walked 12, 15, miles a day...

    Sutton Park Roman History: Rowton / Rownton / Roman-ton Well

    It was probably a local tribal well, the ancient britons worshipped water sources, the Roman' s used to keep these as a special place to keep the local tribes on side. They also had their own water deities, and would leave offerings also !!
