Thanks people. Sorry for the delay, not been on this site for years....Can't help with any details I'm afraid. All hearsay now as the relatives have all gone!
My grandparents (Sam/Ellen Broadbent were from Clfton Rd. They had 5 kids. Irene,June (My Mom) Brian, known as Pete, Linda and Susan. Henry Broadbent was the Great Grandfather.
We used "ARLEY BARLEY" with fingers crossed when we were kids! I can't believe I found this today. I now live in Devon and asked my Mrs the other night if she'd ever heard this? LOL
Looking at old photographs. It seems that my Nan had/ran a grocers in Icknield Port Road way back. Her name Was Ellen Broadbent. Anyone remember the shop?

My Nan and Grandad lived in the maisonettes at the end of Tarry Rd...Until I fell from the 1st floor balcony, whilst climbing as a naughty 4 year old! Then they were rehoused to Castle Vale to a bungalow surprisingly!!!

My dad was Concierge of The Great Western Arcade in th1980's. We lived above it on the 5th floor of Prudential Buildings on Colmore Row. Then at the top end of the arcade above Druckers.facing into Rackhams!!!
