    heatwaves 2026

well, we are now weeks on since I first wrote about there being no/few butterflies. I think I have now seen 3 all summer. We do have a few bats and more bees. The birds are loving the sunflower hearts and the water in the heat. Watching them take 'baths' as well as drinks is very entertaining...

dont forget they need water too. I have found using different container depths/sizes a variety of wild life drink from them, including a woodpecker and a rat!! I have still only seen 2 butterflies in my garden in 2026

    Who do you tip?

I agree. Royal Mail cant keep postmen/women as the conditions are poor at the moment as well as the pay...........confession, I have been 'tipping' my son this year as our post is delivered twice a week, if we are lucky, by different posties.

I agree about the chips. Frozen are dreadful. The reason I have these pictures is that I used to work for Wolverhampton council and go into day centers and 'do' reminiscence.

    OLD AND NEW PHOTOGRAPHS

We used to make a tank out of an old wooden cotton reel. Putting notches in and an elastic band through held by matches eother end and then wind it up either end. it then used to travel along. No electronics in those days. Imagination and no cost

Remember these? I have many more as I was born in 1947 and everything that I held so dear is now so much out of date. I remember mum used to say 'during the war' and I used to think 'time gone'

I remember in 1976 there were many butterflies. The garden next door had many pear trees and the pears had fermented. The butterflies were 'drunk' after feeding off them. There were hundreds. This year where are all the butterflies?

Hi, The photo was taken in Willenhall Memorial Park Walsall. The coat was a sort of mohair with big copper buttons. I was very proud of it. It cost £9. I will add a couple more photos to make people smile. I could become famous. I got the date wrong when I worked at Maison celeste it was 1963.

Hi, I used to work at Maison Celeste ~ shown in the picture. I worked there in 1961. The shop front was more modern than in the picture and it was a hairdressers. The shops were on the left not far past the roundabout (if its still there!) Further along on the same side was a cinema. The shops...

Maryvale Convent School (st Mary's College, Old Oscott)

I went to Maryvale in 1952. I remember being in class (aged 5) and tipping back on chair and burning my wrist on the big heating pipe behind me. Two new classrooms were built they had sort rubber floors and the toilets were low. (as were the doors) The teacher could see over the top. Very rude I...

Depends what year you worked at the butchers. In 1963 one of the 'girls' from the salon went out with one of the butchers. Her name in the salon was 'miss Louise' but her real name was Carol.....not sure if this information fills a gap.
