    Coventry Road, Small Heath

Well, that shot brought back memories. My mother used to take us there to get the orange juice for me and my sister. I was 6 years old (1956). I clearly remember standing outside with my 1 year old sister in her pram. I also seem to remember my sister was there for some medical checks.

Sorry for the very late reply. I have no idea why I don't get alerts when someone's posted. Anyway, ten years before you my mother was born in Arthur St., moved to Golden Hillock Rd., but our rear alley was in Cooksey Rd., she went to Oakley Rd. school and ALL of us spent (or mis-spent) our...

    Bolton Road Small Heath

Yes, WW2. If you have any photos can you post them on the forum? My father lived in Bolton Rd in the '30s and would certainly have known the shop. It's a shame he never mentioned who ran it at the time. Was your man still there at that time?

    Bolton Road Small Heath

Right, I just checked my father's memoirs of his childhood in Bolton road and he states, "The bakery on the corner of Bolton and Oakley Road" was demolished during one of the raids. Any help?

    Bolton Road Small Heath

Anything on that corner of Oakley Rd. and Bolton Rd. opposite the school was, I believe, destroyed in the bombing. Is that where the Bolton Arms was? I have a recollection of my old man telling me that went as well.

    Bolton Road, Small Heath

Sorry for being very late in the day here but I chomped my way through what must have been tons of chips from that chip shop. Do you have any more information or better, a photo or two? I lived at 103.

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

No. 103 is gone, probably 45 years or more ago. 103B, the dentists, is still there. Google street map shows all. How come 103B survived when all around was demolished I have no idea...... 105 is also definitely gone unfortunately. Ask your mum if she remembers Mrs Dowell next door, and...

Hi, I only got part of the message. Can you repeat?

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

Well there's a real surprise! Yes we were neighbours. I was born in 1950 and we left for Daventry in 1957. I used to come back and stay in the house with my grandparents during every school holiday. As I remember it 103B (now the dentists) would have been between us. Is that correct?

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

Hmmm. The only roundabout within any reasonable distance from the BSA was Six Ways of course. Did they belt round that testing bikes? My old man worked for the BSA and also was a motorbike nut but he certainly never mentioned anything of that sort that I remember.

    Clarke Family in Birmingham

Anyone know of an Albet Edwin Clarke of Aston? Worked at the bus depot and nicknamed, unsurprisingly, Clarkey. Born 1902 to 1965.

Thank God for that, I thought I was going mad! I thought I remembered someone coming down the road every evening and turning them on but I thought we had electricity by then. No, I didn't know him. The only Alan I new also lived in Cooksey road and he was Alan Wilkinson. Same age as me (born...

Many thanks for that. Some of the photos I already had but 3 of them I hadn't seen before. Of particular interest was the excellent shot of the Co-op on Six Ways. This is clearly very old and I'm guessing pre-First World War. I remember it being still the Co-op in the early '60s but then...

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

O.K. Well I was born in 1950 so wouldn't have much idea of what was what until I was about ten so I might have never seen it. What we need is for someone to pull a photo out of the hat. The attachment shows up toward Six Ways from the corner of Byron Road so No.112 would be about half way up...

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

I had a look at the few I've got to no avail. It seems that's one of the periods when there's not much in the way of information or photos. I checked my old man's write up of the time when we were living at No. 103 and I believe he bought a Sun Wasp Tandem from there in 1951 which he and...

Blimey, no. Where is it? I suspect it's well after my time. O.K., just checked and if it's Wordsworth Road then I think it's where my uncle Ted used to go dancing on a Friday night. That would be in the '50s.

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

Hi Aggie, Thanks. Some of these shots are contemporary with my time living in Golden Hillock Road. Scary! Forgot to add I'm not on Facebook. Is there another way to view the photos?

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

Hi Covroad, Thanks for that. The building on the other side of the roundabout appears to be the Co-op which I certainly remember. What I don't remember is when it closed and was taken over by?? I'll try and do a bit more research....

Golden Hillock Road Six Ways Small Heath

I was born in 103 Golden Hillock Road, Small Heath in 1950. Searching the forum, and the internet generally, I've never found a photo of the house taken before it was demolished in the late '60s or early '70s. Does anyone know of any photos taken in the '40s or '50s of the top end of the road...
