I see. Thanks for explaining. That makes a lot of sense. I guess Alice and Thomas did have a lot of children and perhaps they couldn't afford to have all the children living with them or couldn't cope with them all living with them. It sounds like Walter was very lucky to have William.

That would make sense if he was living with William in 1891 and 1901, then joined the army in 1902. I haven't got anymore military records after 1911 and I guess a lot could change between 1911and 1921. I haven't got access to the Census myself but I can see that the Census had both Walter...

That's great. Thank you so much for all this information. Do you know William's address when Walter was living with him? Also, any idea what took Walter to Yorkshire? The last information I have on Walter is that he's based oversea's and that's according to the 1911 Census.

I think we might be getting a bit warmer! I think you're right, I might have been getting confused. I've looked back over the information I've got and I don't think we're actually looking for a Walter Layland, so he could indeed be Walter Dixon. As far as I'm aware too, Walter lived in...

Thanks but that Walter would have been too old. The Walter L, I'm looking for was 18 or 19, depending on which version of his military records you believe! This is from 1902, so it would fit with him being at a wedding in 1903. I just can't connect him to my family, even though he's got...

Hi MWS, thanks for getting back to me. You're spot on; my grandfathers' grandfather is Walter L and My grandfather's brother was also Walter L. There's also a Walter L down my grandfather's cousin's side, who married my Grandmother's sister and obviously, my grandfather married my...

Hi there, I realise that this is a very old post and you were looking for information on the Kirby family but do you have any more information about Walter Layland Mountney? I believe Walter may be related to me but I'm not sure how. Walter was a soldier in the Royal Artillery in 1903 and had...
