Looking for any info on Violet and John Thomas Clarke, born 1905 and 1908 in Ladywood. Parents were David Clarke and Maud Kemp. Probably put into one of Birmingham Cottage Homes when their father became ill about 1916 and subsequently died in 1918. Maud remarried an Arthur Clarkson in 1918.

I don't think there's any connection, but you never know. My Samuel was born in 1875 and his father was John Thomas Clarke, a tube drawer, who died in 1891. There's some similar names but the dates are too early for yours. My father, Albert Clarke, was brought up in Marston Green Orphanage so...

Does anyone know why a child in Walsall Workhouse in 1881 would be at a Girls' Industrial School in Bath in 1891? I understand that Industrial Schools were for children brought before the courts because of destitution rather than crime but why would they send them so far away from their home...
