    Lickey Hills

Further to this post, a letter has been printed in our local magazine "The Village " with more about Blackberry Jane. A resident was saying her father was a local coal merchant, and most mornings he would go to his lorry, and find Blackberry Jane asleep in his cab. In those days you never had to...

    Snow Hill Station

Great photos again Mark, out of curiosity, would the entrances in Great Charles Street have led to these cellars and parcels areas ? I know there are locked doors there now, i wonder who has the key, and what exists behind these locked doors ??

The Bank tunnel is the arched one on the right, i believe there was a platform in there. I hadnt realised there was a fourth portal (extreme right ) the square one, can anyone enlighten me on this one ?

    Snow Hill Station

Great photos Mark, but also sad. I know one of the tunnel entrances was where they bought the used bank notes down in the night. Im certain its the one on the right. The left one housed the horse stables, and blacksmiths shop at one time.

Quite right Rosie, it was great as a child living around there, we were so lucky. Any ideas when the railway shut, ? i guess it was around 1967, but i dont khow the exact time. I often wonder what happened to that train.

Thats the one Spargone, great pictures and happy memories. I remember the loco shed being wooden, the dip in the ground where the shed used to be is still visible today. Thanks for posting.

    Miniature & narrow gauge railways

Does anyone remember the miniature railway in Bournville park, where the Boating lake is. Our Dad used to take us there on a Sunday afternoon. It was a maroon engine and it ran on about 250 yards of track. I think it closed in the late 60s. Does it jog any ones memories ?

    Severn valley railway.

I remember many years ago, i took my kids on the Severn Valley Railway, and we stopped off at Hampton Loade. It was midweek, and we walked down to the ferry. It was moored up, and there was a sign saying " TO CROSS THE RIVER, PLEASE RING THE BELL". This was a bell with a bit of rope on the end...

Great photos of Arley ferry. Is Hampton Loade ferry still in use ? It was run by an old woman in the 80s/90s, who smoked a clay pipe. She charged you 20p to cross the river, she got a lot of business off the fishermen.

    Horses on the canals

Im sure a lot of you members have seen this, but if you walk along any stretch of canal, when approaching a bridge or tunnel, have a look at the edge of the brickwork. You will notice a few grooves cut into the brickwork, caused by the bargehorse ropes rubbing against it over many years.

    Halesowen Railway

Having walked this line a few times, i remember once we had just walked past New Street bridge ( not the Birmingham one ), They have filled the cutting in about 15 years ago. We were happily walking along the top of the embankment, and i noticed an apple tree growing out the side of the of it. I...

    Snow Hill Station

It certainly was Ann, i walked it in the 80s just before it re-opened. There were knowledgable guides in the tunnel at the time. We were told that the tunnel roof was sandblasted, and they removed six inches of soot from it. If they had bottled it and sold it as souveniers they would have made a...

    Gas Street basin

Mikejee, your arrow is in the wrong place, the photo is Pershore Road bridge, you have marked it as Lifford lane bridge. Also just behind where the photographer was , there was a railway marshalling yard. You would see this if the map was moved up a couple of inches. Hope you dont mind the...
