Well I think it is too & the evidence that it was called Mansel House seems conclusive but it would be great to find a confirming image. Its not my image by the way - posted on behalf of another.

This is from an unidentified group & the possibility of Mansel House being at 229 Somerville Road (corner with Mansel Rd), Small Heath has been raised. It was a drapers in 1911/1921 but I cannot see a reference to a Mansel House in directories etc The brickwork & windows seem to be a reasonable...

Hi Janet - thanks for your input. I have looked at countless Lancashire Whit Walks previously for this & other reasons. It still comes down to the fact that the houses are Brummie in style. Lancashire is quite different in nuanced ways.

Interesting but the image is definitely around the 1912 period.

I know what you mean but this is quite unusual & corner shops as in the background do not look the same in many places at all. The main area where one would expect such processions - South Lancs - is very different in certain respects.

Catholic Procession of Faiths I would suggest - see my other remarks. Definitely a Catholic Procession - either celebratory or a ‘procession of faiths’. Just found another in Stoke-on-Trent (again different street style to Brum) with similar descriptions.

Interesting. The gradual incline is there too. I post an image of a gradual rising terrace in Burbury Street, Lozells (not that it is there). The 1916 route was from St Chads to Central Hall.

The likelihood is that this photo was taken during WW1 because of the news poster concerning the war. I would posit that it is not Edwardian.

As someone involved in photography & postcards for over 30 years I have struggled to find this sort of urban environment anywhere else - similar yes but not so Brummie in all respects.

‘St ?ane League’ I think. Could be Jane I guess. I wondered about a Bristol Road connection. This is a close-up.

I doubt it is Rotary? The third banner say St ???? League & St Catherine so the wheel may refer to St Catherine (she was stretched on a wheel!).
