    Our childhood toys

I think many of us had horses like this. Mine was made by my grandparents. My Grandma made the horses head out of old pillow cases. I can remember it was striped, & I thought it was a zebra, & not a horse. She did explain that it was all she had to use. I had loads of fun with it.

Hello Richard.Miss beck was the one I certainly remember most. Always came into the showers when I was in there after playing football on the top field. I wonder what miss Stainses did that was naughty. I was there from 1965 to the summer of 1969. I left there the day after my birthday. Miss...

So wonderful to hear from you David. So glad to hear that Mr Pinner had a suuccessful career after HH, but sad to hear of Mr Tebbutt. I bet you remember Mr Powell, who had his home near the block, for the seniors. I remember the pillow fights, & got caught a few times, though not punished. My...

Lozells Road, Shops, Pubs, Businesses etc

Hello Jules65. I used to work at FineFare in the late 70's/early 80's. I did have a photo of Finefare from that time, but have lost it. Got a couple of others of Lozells Road from that time, which I found on here.

Wow. I remember most of those teachers you mentioned David. I first arrived there in 1965. Hated it at first, but thanks to long talks with Miss Buckley, I began to enjoy my 4 years there, but did not like Mr Tebbut, who used to flick my ears when using a saw in the carpentry class. Mr Pinner, I...

    Waterworks Street

Mrs Harrison was a really wonderful shop keeper. Always very pleasant. There was also Perry's on the corner of union street, also very pleasant owners. We were spoilt for choice with the shop owners back then, unlike how some are today.

Hello Peter. Thank you for this information. I often wondered what had happened to Hunters Hill after I left the school in July 1969. The head mistress at the time was Miss Buckley, & she had been there for a lot of years(so am told). She retired at the same time I left school, & had often...

Welcome to this wonderful forum Thea49. You are totally correct, with Hunters Hill open air school just across the road from the Cropwood entrance. I was at Hunters Hill from 1965 to 1969 when I left school.

    Aston Villa history

That used to be the running joke of the 1970's Bernard. They are doing okay at the moment. The best of the midlands.

    Town or City

It was always called town in our house too, when we lived in Aston. I never heard anyone call it city. My mum always used to take me wheh she went shopping on a Saturday. Used to spend lots of time in the old bull ring, Lewis@s & Henry's.

    Villa Street Lozells

Well noticed Vivienne. I did not notice that. Bit of a difficult one to pin down. I just had a thought that the cover over the street light may have had something to do with changing from gas to elecrtic, which would mke this somewhere in the 1960's. Certainly getting the old grey matter working.

    Villa Street Lozells

Hello Vivienne. From the appearance of the clothing on some of the people, it could be from the 1940's. Probably during the 2nd world war as the gas lamp appears to have a cover on the glass.

Birmingham Nightclubs of the Past - Memories

Yes Terence. The old West End was the best dance floor due to the massive springs underneath. My late farther helped demolish it & took me up there when the dance floor was ripped out. I was shocked to see the size of those springs.

I had one of the old wooden one's when I was at schoo. I too could never get the hang of it.
