Birmingham Lamp posts, ORIGINAL Colour please?

Hi Guys, Thank you for all your replies and interest. I have just been going back to 2019, where I asked the same question, and for that I apologize. However, it has taken me all these years to actually arrange to have it professionally re-furbed. I am going with : Cream post and ladder holders...

Birmingham Lamp posts, ORIGINAL Colour please?

Hi everyone, a rather unusual request, and I do hope someone can assist me. I have the original Nechells Gas Lamp number "3", I bought it from Kingsbury Yard in the late fifties. I painted it red & white to match my then house, and when we moved, brought it with me. I am now re-furbishing it...

    Barrows Stores

As I mentioned some years ago, I sometimes had to go with a delivery van to Roman Road, in Streetly, where a very small basket would be delivered, containing a quarter pound of tomatoes, a cos lettuce, a cucumber and a small punnet of strawberries. The obvious point, was to be seen having the...

    Where did you live

Hi, I was born at 120, Calshot, which was across the other side of the road. I had a friend as a child called Tony Green, who would have lived in the 115 area....unsure of a William Taylor or a Dorothy Green. Sorry. Gerry

    Barrows Stores

I lived in Great Barr at the time, and would catch the 119 Midland RED into Birmingham. We would enter the store from the Bull Street entrance, and the store area was much the same as other big store back areas. a sort of organized chaos. We had a staff changing room ( unheard of then at most...

Thanks. The Main entrance was on Corporation Street, and the side entrance was on Bull Street.

    Royal Warwickshire Regiment

The easiest way to get a Royal Warwick's cap badge is on ebay. Or, if you wanted to Google The Royal Warwickshire Regiment Museum, they would know doubt sell you one.

    Royal Warwickshire Regiment

My Dad, also had traumatic scars. He never spoke about what had happened out there. I went to visit a couple of years ago, just to see where it had all happened.

    Royal Warwickshire Regiment

My Dad ( CH Taylor ) served with the Royal Warwickshire Regiment, initially, then was transferred to The Hampshire's, going from Africa across to Italy., where he was made up to Sgt, awarded the Military Medal for gallantry on the Italy Landings at Salerno. I have all the records APART from the...

The new Bus Station that never was.

I think I mentioned it before, but in case I didn't...The new bus order by WMPTE was for Volvo Ailsa's, which had a height of 14 feet, the new bus station had a roof height to accommodate the normal 12 feet high buses....so it was never used.

    Crossroads programme

With the mention of "Crossroads" the TV series, I have to say that for fans of that series, I still see Jane Rossington, (JILL) who lives close by. She is sadly in the last days of dementure. She is cared for, and as comfortable as she can be. I speak with her on a regular basis, but it is hard...

The new Bus Station that never was.

Yes, understood, but the actual building was far too low to be able to put a bus of 14 feet high under the ceilings, which were built to accommodate the 12 foot buses. A case of...They got it completely wrong. I too haven't been into that top end of town for some time, so it would be an...

The new Bus Station that never was.

So pleased I brought this subject up, as I have not heard anything about it since driving a D9 past it every day back in the seventies......Thank you for the information.

The new Bus Station that never was.

Yes I do remember how awful it looked; another piece of history that few recall.
